Following the six most important hours in HIStory, He was taken down from the tree and placed in an unused tomb provided by a rich man in accordance with prophecy. The Sabbath was coming and Joseph and Nicodemus could not allow His beaten and broken body to continue to hang on the cross until it was over. Urgently, the two secret followers from the Sanhedrin wrapped him in burial cloths, placed Him in Joseph’s tomb, and rolled the stone into place. They had to hurry. There wasn’t much time.
Maybe you have had a lot on your mind at a time when you were in a hurry to complete a difficult task. Surely, this was the case for Joseph and Nicodemus. It is likely they pondered the many questions neither of them dared to ask out loud.
We hoped He was the One. What happened?
How much longer will we wait?
What did this Man do that justified this brutality?
Where can I go?
What will I do now?
The Scriptures don’t say what the men thought about or discussed. We are simply told the Shabbat was about to begin and time was running out.
All around the world today, Christendom is quiet. Yesterday was what many call Good Friday. What was good about that day? Let’s let Scripture speak to what was good about that terrible day.
But the Lord was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand. – Isaiah 53:10
About 700 years before this fateful day, Isaiah gave a hint as to why Good Friday is good. Yeshua’s Father was pleased to “crush Him” and “put Him to grief.” The Lord was pleased? Yes! Messiah had to buried quickly because what followed could not happen until He was in the grave.
Saturday must have seemed like an eternity to Jesus’ closest followers as they contemplated the hopes and dreams they had held just 2 days earlier. They thought they had all the time in the world, but on the day after Passover, they must have been thinking it was time to get out of town. There wasn’t much time.
The prophets of Israel told the Jews what was going to happen. Jesus told them what was going to happen. Everything had happened just as they had said, and yet the disciples thought they were out of time. Now here we are 2,000 years later and looking at the world around. You may be thinking there isn’t much time. You would be correct. There isn’t.
But here is the good news. If we were to turn to the Bible and really look at what it says about the days that we now live in, we would see that everything we need to know is right there in the pages of God’s Word. Some of those who have been following Yeshua in this age have begun to ask the same questions His first followers were asking. And like them, we have already been told what to expect. Israel’s prophets told us. Yeshua told us. The Apostles told us. And we should be telling others what they all have said.
Here is more good news.
Pastor Steve Troxel of Shepherd’s Support has written a helpful piece entitled The Revelation to Remember. This booklet provides a brief chapter by chapter explanation of the last book of the Bible, Revelation. For each chapter Pastor Troxel has devised a memory hook to help you remember what is taught in it. I have heard Steve teach this material during several tours we have led together in Israel, Greece, and Turkey. Each time I have thought how useful this could be to the Body of Messiah as we live in these turbulent last days. Last year, I encouraged Steve to write this book. It is now finished and I am grateful to Steve for making this available to Disciple Daily as our first publishing project.
Here is the really good news. The eBook version of The Revelation to Remember is yours at absolutely no cost. It is yours free of charge. We are making this available to you today because it is short enough to be read in one sitting. All you will need today is an hour or two of spare time while you wait for Resurrection Day to dawn.
