Contents: Abraham justified by faith, not by his works. Justifying faith defined.
Characters: God – the Father, Messiah Jesus, Abraham, David, Sarah
Conclusion: No man can pretend to merit eternal life, nor show any worth in his work which may provide such a reward as justification before God. Disclaiming any pretension, he must cast himself wholly upon the free grace of God by faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. To such a one faith is counted for righteousness.
Here are four facts concerning justification.
1. Since justification is a gift, it cannot be earned by works (Romans 4:1-8)
2. Since Abraham was justified before he was circumcised, circumcision has no relationship to justification (Romans 4:9-12).
3. Since Abraham was justified centuries before the Mosaic Law was given to Moses on Mt. Sinai, justification is not based on the Law (Romans 4:13-17).
4. Abraham was justified because of his faith in God, not because of his works (Romans 4:18-25)
Key Word: Justified By Faith – Romans 4:5
Strong Verses: Romans 4:5, 7-8, 16, 25
Striking Facts: Romans 4:24-25 – Christ’s death and resurrection are the two main hinges on which the door of salvation turns. He was delivered as our sacrifice for sin. He was raised for the perfecting and completing of our justification.
