Contents: Messages are delivered to three of the seven churches identified in John’s book. All of these were located in Asia Minor. The messages concerned “the things which are” (see Revelation 1:19). They are as follows:
Ephesus – Having left their first love they had become lukewarm. Judgement was coming (Revelation 2:1-7). Smyrna – The persecuted believers of this local church had stood firm and paid the price. Reward would be theirs (Revelation 2:8-11). Pergamos – False doctrines initiated by Satan were taught and allowed to take root. Judgement was coming (Revelation 2:12-17). Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29).
Characters: God, Messiah Jesus, Holy Spirit, Messengers of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, and Thyatira, John, Satan, Antipas, Balaam, Balac, Jezebel.
Conclusion: “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches”. Let believers beware that by turning a deaf ear to the voice of the Holy Spirit we will lose his our spiritual hearing and will grow cold toward Messiah. We will be without victory in tribulations and find ourselves to be apostates, carried away by every wind of doctrine. Faithful overcomers will remain in vital relationship with their Messiah, the Bridgroom of the Church (1 John 4:4).

Strong Verses: Revelation 2:4,7,10,11
Striking Facts: The letters to the Churches are Epistles of Messiah dictated before the throne (Revelation 2:1) . While these letters deal with local churches existing in John’s time, they are also symbolic of conditions in the whole Body of Messiah (the Church) during the present Church Age. While symbolism plays a significant role in the Revelation, God intends for “mystery” it represents to be plainly understood. The promises and warnings of Revelation correspond to the views of the Old Testament prophets, the other New Testament writers, and also the Supreme Authority – Messiah Jesus. All of the Old Testament prophecies concerning world HIStory up until this day have unfolded in a literal manner. The same can be expected for HIStory’s future events.
Memory Hook: Revelation 2 + 3, ESP, TSP, L
In Revelation 2 & 3, seven local congregations in Asia Minor are sent a message from Messiah, each one applicable to the spiritual condition it exhibits. The churches are Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. The ‘L‘ of Laodicea reminds us of a finger pointing to heaven. Following Laodicea’s spiritual condition is revealed, the Bride of Messiah meets her Bridegroom in the air and is taken up with Him to heaven in the Rapture.
