In my opinion, this is the greatest country that has ever existed. We’ve been blessed with the highest level of freedom that the world has ever known. The wealth of the people of The United States of America is unparalleled. This is true even for the poorest among us. When compared with other countries around the world… well there is no comparison.
I’m thankful that I have been graced to travel extensively. I have personally experienced some of the poorest places in the world. I know that we are the envy of virtually everyone on the surface of planet earth. Having said all of this, it is almost impossible to express the sadness of my heart as I look at what is becoming of the people of this land.
Let me be honest. I am pretty cynical right now. As a citizen of the USA, I have the privilege of voting and giving voice and weight to that which I believe and desire. Like most of America, I have underappreciated just how weighty this privilege is. But, “let’s vote on it!” just might be some of the most destructive words ever spoken.
For almost 2 weeks, I recently spent time with a family that is very marginalized. They live in a landlocked Central Asian country. Their secular Islamic state suppresses the proclamation that Jesus is the Savior of the world. Groups of believers that meet together are required to register their existence with the government if their numbers are 10 or more. That means “big brother” knows where they are meeting, who is attending, and what is being done in their midst. God used this oppressed minority to cause me to think more critically about what I really believe and what those beliefs cause me to actually do. I went to this country thinking that I was going to minister to others. But the people I met ended up being the instrument that God used to further transform me from the inside out.
Majority opinion has turned our world upside down. It has always been this way. Believers in Jesus need only return to the Story of God, to see that this is true. Here are few examples.
On the sixth day, God created mankind. In the Garden of Eden 100% of humanity chose to rebel against God. – Majority Opinion, WRONG!
In the days before the flood, only Noah and his family loved and served God. The rest of mankind was so wicked, God decided to wipe it off the face of the earth. Just eight people survived. – Majority Opinion, WRONG!
In world of polytheism, Abraham alone believed God. This was credited to him as righteousness. – Majority Opinion, WRONG!
Ten of Israel’s sons believed getting rid of their braggart brother was the solution to their problems. Joseph was elevated to Pharaoh’s side to prove a point. – Majority Opinion, WRONG!
Having just experienced God’s deliverance from Egypt’s army at the Red Sea, the children of Israel complained that it would be better if they had never left the land of their slavery. – Majority Opinion, WRONG!
At Mount Sinai, being told that God would provide the constitutional guidelines for a new light giving society, the children of Israel resolutely proclaimed, “All that God says we will do!” The biblical record says otherwise. – Majority Opinion, WRONG!
Let me provide one more example that proves my point.
There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. – John 1:9-11
Need I go on? Throughout all of history, it made no difference where people lived or who they were. The vast majority of people throughout the world have always voted their circumstances without regard to what is truly right or wrong. Even when intentions appeared altruistic, most of the time the sin nature resident in each one of us bent their evaluation process to the patterns of this world where the Prince of the Air (Satan) still remains at large.
Right here, I am going to stop dancing around the issue. It makes no difference in the long run who wins the next election in the United States of America. Whichever candidate is able to cobble together the largest number of votes will hold office as the representative of his constituency. Once in office, that candidate will do almost anything to remain in that office. For a while, it may even appear to some that the important issues of life are being addressed and life is going to get better. Appearances are short lived.
But that is not the picture the Bible presents. Throughout all of history, what man has built, God has brought low. To see the world as God does, one must look at things differently. “There was evening, and there was morning, one day.” I want you to see that there is only One opinion that really counts. His single view is really the “Majority Opinion.” In fact it is not an opinion at all. It is simply fact.
Jesus said, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.” – Matthew 24:4-8
Running On Empty
The days are growing shorter. The Bible is clear. There is only one escape route from the event detailed below. The road to redemption does not run through Washington D.C. There is only one kingdom that will stand the test of time. It is not a kingdom of this world. One day the all the people of both blue states and the red states will be judged. There is coming a day when everyone who have not yet believed that Jesus alone is the way out will stand before the One Person whose opinion is final.
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and bbooks were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. – Revelation 20:11-15
Followers of Jesus Christ, isn’t it time that we quit wasting so much energy, time, and money on the things of this world? Isn’t it time that recommitted our energies to our Father’s business?
