My uber-driven wife downloaded an app to her iPhone called Run Keeper. She has been tracking her progress with each work-out. She also has a walking buddy who has decided to participate in this year’s Chosen Marathon. You might say she is Noemi’s new BFF (Best Friend Forever). Together, they are experiencing rapid improvement in both the distance they are walking and the pace at which they are covering it.
Two weeks ago I purchased a new pair of running shoes. They have been in my closet since then, still in the box. So, guess what? This morning I put on my new shoes, downloaded Run Keeper to my iPhone, put on my headphones and cranked up my Eric Clapton Pandora radio station, and started my own training.
This is not meant as braggadocio about my own personal exercise regimen for the half marathon that I hope to run in October. You can, however, send a little encouragement my way if you are so compelled. This is about what keeps us young. This is about what makes us productive. This is about how God wants to use each of us in the lives of others, while he continues to push us forward in our own race to the finish line.
Let me bring this full-circle. I praise God for His life in me. He is my real Run Keeper. So, come on, let’s get moving. I may be old, but I ain’t dead yet!
