He couldn’t leave it alone. Satan. Knowing why God made man both male and female, once again he challenged God’s right to be glorified in all that He had created. With a frontal assault, in the presence of the man, Satan appealed to the woman causing her to question the one command God had directly given her husband.
Where was the man? Right there watching it all go down. Did he do anything, anything at all to stop his beautiful wife from disobeying God’s very specific instructions. Nope! All you have to do now is just look around to see the result of that first act of willful rebellion against God. Sin is now a cancer in all of Creation. You don’t have to look far. Just find a mirror. We are all dying because of sin. There is nothing that can be done to stop it.
Or, is there?
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel. – Genesis 3:15
Speaking directly to the antagonist, God put Satan on notice. “You won round one, but this is a long war. Look at that woman. One of these days, a descendant of hers is going tot take you down. You will be thoroughly destroyed. Bank on it!” Truth be known, Satan never had a chance.
Think About It
1. In a futile act of their own design, Adam and Eve sewed fig leaves together as clothing to cover the shame their sin caused. How do you attempt to cover the sin of your own life and how is that working for you?
2. In a loving response to their fallen condition and their newly broken relationship with Him, what did God do to cover the shame of Adam and Eve’s sin?
3. Have you asked God to wash away your own sin with the final and complete sacrifice, the blood of the perfect Lamb of God, Jesus?
