Jesus’ disciples must know His Word. His disciples must be characterized by continual Bible study and the application of what it teaches in their lives. This changes the lives of those who claim to be Jesus disciples from the inside out. When the words of the Bible take up residence in the lives of men, women, boys, and girls… they are changed forever.
Jesus’ disciples at all times tell others everywhere what God is doing in the world with both their words and their actions. When someone discovers something that is really fantastic, they can’t keep it to themselves. They have to tell someone else what they found! As they experience the benefits of their discovery, others take notice. When they say, “You have changed. What has happened to you?” disciples of Jesus should be prepared to teach them how they can get in on the action.
Jesus’ disciples allow Him to produce fruit through their lives. Perhaps you have heard the phrase, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Those who would be Jesus’ disciples must leave the comfort of their usual surroundings to enter the lives of those around them. Jesus is our example. The Son of God left heaven to be with humanity! His love became visible. He gave His love away with His very own life. Because He taught His first disciples to give their lives away too, His direct ministry to them has been multiplied through them for the last 2,000 years. His greatest desire is that His 21st Century disciples would follow His example today.
